The Legacy Senior Living
Located in Kalamazoo’s Historic Northside Neighborhood, The Legacy: Senior Housing is a proposed 70-unit affordable housing development for seniors (55+), jointly sponsored by Edison Community Partners, LLC and Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Just minutes from downtown Kalamazoo, the project aims to provide high-quality, energy-efficient housing while fostering community engagement and revitalization.
The development consists of two three-story buildings:
- 127 E Frank Street – 36 units (34 one-bedroom, 2 two-bedroom) with a community room, fitness center, and beauty salon. Financed with 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credits and built to Passive House sustainability standards for lower energy costs and improved resident comfort.
- 120 E North Street – 34 units (32 one-bedroom, 2 two-bedroom) featuring a library, puzzle room, and shared roof deck. Financed with 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credits.
Both buildings are elevator-serviced, with full access to shared amenities. The project will offer a range of rents for residents earning 20%–80% of Area Median Income (AMI).
The Legacy is strategically located near essential services, including the Ecumenical Senior Center, Family Health Center, and public transit with direct access to Kalamazoo Metro routes. The development team is committed to community collaboration, engaging Mt. Zion’s 2,500+ congregation, the Northside Neighborhood Association, and other stakeholders to align with the City of Kalamazoo’s Master Plan.
This project represents a major step in revitalizing the Northside, offering modern, sustainable, and affordable housing for seniors while fostering a stronger, more connected community.
